Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Dominic Savio, SJ, is the Rector of St. Xavier's Community, Kolkata, Principal, St. Xavier's College (Autonomous) Kolkata and the President, St. Xavier's College (Calcutta) Alumni Association. He is blessed to be named after one of the famous Catholic Saint, St. Dominic Savio.
He is also blessed to have got Jesuit Education all through his life from KG to PG. Rev. Fr. Dominic Savio, SJ, did his schooling in De Britto School, a Jesuit School of high reputation at Devakottai in Southern Tamil Nadu and graduated with major in Economics from the famous St. Joseph’s College, Trichi. He did his Post Graduation and M. Phil from the epitome of Jesuit Education in India, Loyola College, Chennai. He got his Ph. D. in Economics from Burdwan University.
Fr. Dominic Savio joined the Jesuit Order in Dhyanashram, Kolkata in 1985 and ordained as Priest in 1996. He did his higher studies in Philosophy in De Nobilie and Jnana Deepa, Pune and Theology in Vidyajyoti, Delhi.
Since 2000 he is associated with St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata in teaching in its Arts & Science, Commerce and BBA Departments. He has been the in-charge of the BBA Department, Vice Principal of the Morning Commerce and the BBA Depts of the College and then Deputy Principal and subsequently as the Principal of St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata.
Apart from being a member of the governing body of many Jesuit Educational Institutions, he is the Convener of the Calcutta Jesuit Province Education Commission.
Fr. Dominic Savio is also the Rector of St. Xavier’s Jesuit Community, Kolkata.
He has already proved himself as a true Jesuit by way of his strictness in achieving competence among the students including discipline in one hand and being extremely compassionate towards his students when any of them has been in distress or in need of any guidance, help, comfort and counseling.
Among many awards, he has received the prestigious Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Award for his contribution in higher education.
