Festive Greetings from St. Xavier's College (Calcutta) Alumni Association (SXCCAA)!
We are pleased to share a brief update on the Philanthropic Outreach Programs organised by the St. Xavier's College (Calcutta) Alumni Association (SXCCAA) in collaboration with the Department of Social Work and NSS Unit I of St. Xavier's College (Autonomous), Kolkata on Wednesday, 8th October 2025 at Serampore, Hooghly (WB). These initiatives exemplify our collective commitment to service and social responsibility—key pillars of the Xaverian spirit.
Free Eye Check-up Camp and Mental Health Therapy for Specially abled Children at Seva Kendra Extension Centre, Serampore (Hooghly, WB)
The day began with a Free Eye Check-up Camp organised at the Seva Kendra Extension Centre, supported by the Department of Health and Family Welfare Government of West Bengal. This initiative offered essential eye care services, consultations and distribution of spectacles to the beneficiaries from the local community. A dedicated team of ophthalmologists and health staff extended their expertise to ensure the well-being of participants, particularly from economically weaker sections. Also, a free mental health therapy was organized for more than 60 specially abled children with mental disorders.
"Spread the Joy" – Celebration at Cheshire Home, Serampore (Hooghly, WB)
The second program of the day, "Spread the Joy", was a heartwarming interaction with the differently-abled and senior citizens of Cheshire Home, Serampore. The event witnessed the distribution of food, gifts, festive clothes and blankets, creating an atmosphere of warmth and inclusion. The interaction brought smiles to many faces, beautifully capturing the spirit of compassion and empathy that defines the Xaverian community.
Both programs were inaugurated by Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ, Principal, St. Xavier's College (Autonomous), Kolkata, President, SXCCAA, and Secretary, JHEASA, gracing as the Chief Guest. Rev. Dr. Savio, SJ, along with Jesuit Fathers from St. Xavier's Community and the Archdiocese of Calcutta, inspired everyone with words of encouragement, reminding us of our calling to be "men and women for and with others."
Notably, 31 NSS student volunteers actively participated alongside SXCCAA members, ensuring smooth coordination and heartfelt engagement throughout both events. Also, the logistics and other essential arrangements for both programs were done through benevolent contributions by SXCCAA members. Special thanks and gratitude goes to Seva Kendra Kolkata and Fr. Rodricks for giving us the opportunity to organise such a meaningful benevolent endeavour.
These outreach programs are a powerful reminder of our motto Nihil Ultra – "Nothing Beyond", inspiring the Xaverian family to go beyond boundaries in service of humanity. The twin initiatives not only reached out to the underprivileged but also fostered values of empathy, teamwork and civic responsibility among our students and alumni. Through these acts of meaningful service, the St. Xavier's College (Calcutta) Alumni Association, in collaboration with the Department of Social Work and NSS Unit I, reaffirms its enduring commitment to faith in action. Special appreciation is extended to the dedicated SXCCAA members whose efforts embody the mission of St. Xavier's College to nurture a compassionate and inclusive society.
